Now this one is for Tammy, since she got all sappy over the first one.
No more sugary videos. I promise!

thMy sister IMed this morning with an invitation to an improptu picnic at a local park. By the time we’d finished planning, our guest list soared to almost 20 individuals. It was a potluck picnic, so we had plenty of food. And with nine cousins swarming the park, we found fun in every direction.
My VTH (Very Thoughtful Husband) arranged a back-up babysitter so I could go out kayaking tonight even though he’s on-call. It was a perfect paddling night–cooler than the past several days and the recent rains raised the water level enough that I wasn’t scraping bottom in the usual spots. I was making great time and got to thinking that I could probably reach the upstream bridge for the first time this season.
Gaining confidence with each stroke, I was mentally composing a blog entry about my anticipated accomplishment when, coming around a bend in the river near the local strawberry farm, I noticed a small dog swimming out to greet me from the left bank. I cooed, “Hey there, fella!” and reached my hand out to him when I noticed it wasn’t a small dog and, judging by the fearless charges at my boat, he didn’t appear happy to see me:

We danced up and down the river for a few rounds, but the little fellow was determined not to let me pass. Not being one to disturb nature unecessarily, I took my cue and turned my boat back downstream. It seems my bridge ambitions will have to wait until the pups grow up a bit.
James and I took the kids to the Wisconsin Renaissance Faire today as a spur-of-the-moment, the-house-is-ready-for-buyers celebration. For those of you living within driving distance of Chippewa Falls, this is a worthwhile weekend excursion for your family. We especially enjoyed the Sheepherding dogs and the jousting tournaments.
James has been paying the kids a nickel for each potato bug they pull off the plants in our garden. He thinks he’s getting a good deal, but judging by the way those insects are multiplying, he could be taking out a second mortgage on the new house in order to pay his little entrepreneurs. But it keeps the kids busy and also squashes any bit of squeamishness they might have.
I realized last night that I never finished up posting the information for our States unit study. Because I’m unsure where I left off and because I already have a handy zip file created for a friend, I’ll just post it here:
I’m starting to regret the whole teaching him to read idea:
