Myths of Parenting: Self Esteem

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jodi @ 10:29 pm

I’ve been reading Bowden McElroy’s blog for a couple of weeks now and I’ve enjoyed quite a bit of it. Today’s tongue-in-cheek entry was particularly thought-provoking, especially because I’m currently in this stage of life:

Toof Fairy

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jodi @ 9:07 am

Baba lost another tooth on Thursday, so there’s been some talk about the Tooth Fairy in our house the past couple of days. Apparently it’s made quite an impression on Margie: she came running downstairs from her room this morning shouting, “Mom, Mom, I found the Toof Fairy!”

I asked Margie where she found the little sprite, and she said, “I was putting away my dollies and I looked in my basket and she was there!” Her eyes are the size of half-dollars, and she apparently believes she’s made an outstanding find . . . “Look at these feet! They’re great for landing!”

Little known facts about this fairy: “She takes the teeth and she puts them in her sleeve. Then she puts them in a closet where everyone can find them. Because it says ‘Toof Fairy’ on it. She is a kid sometimes. She’s ten years old . . . no, she’s three years old, and she’s mom and dad are ten year olds. She has a couple of cousins: one is named John, one is named Yanna, one is named Anna, one is named Karen, and one is named Natalie. Then she had grandmas and papas and they were taking tooths away from people. Some were flying to there and some were walking to there. Most are just doing this [she pushes the Tooth Fairy on her belly across the table].”

So if your kid loses a tooth sometime in the near future and the little lady neglects to make a visit to your house, you’ll know why. She’s been detained. Posted by Picasa

A Pair of Geese

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jodi @ 10:23 am

Our neighbors are going to hate me. I just sent Baba and Margie outside with a pair of goose calls. The neighbors’ loss is definitely my gain.

I’m watching the geese wannabes from the back window. They’re standing at the top of the riverbank honking their hearts out at a gaggle of the real thing eating breakfast in the water below. The authentic geese are unimpressed. In fact, they’ve moved several yards downriver (I can only guess in hopes of getting away from that painful sound). Baba, ever the optimist, just turned and shouted, “Mom, look! We’ve called four or five geese!”

Junior is frantic at the window with desire to follow his brother and sister. Soon, Little One, you’ll be as sophisticated as they are.

Yes, that is a lizard tattoo on my sweet baby’s face.

Lesson learned: Don’t fall asleep on the couch leaving the baby unprotected from the whims of a father with temporarily impaired judgement.

(OK, some of you know the truth . . . if I’d been awake I’d likely have been right there with Daddy egging him on. Shame on you for blowing my reputation.) Posted by Picasa

Snowflakes and Snow Crystals

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jodi @ 9:01 pm

It’s snowing a bit here tonight, and what better way to celebrate that by viewing some beautiful pictures of snowflakes:

Snowflakes and Snow Crystals

I’m gonna save this link because in March I’ll probably want to be reminded that snow can be pretty.

My dear friend JJ entered the blogging world not too long ago. If you get a chance, check out her Alaska blog, Tales From Boyland.

JJ and I go back to about 4th grade, when she wore pigtails and we called each other “Cuz” (she’s a distant cousin, which is why she shows up on my list of family blogs). After high school we lost touch for several years but, as it happening quite often in my life lately, found each other a couple years ago with the assistance of the internet.

Welcome to the world of blogs, JJ! It’s great to have you in the “neighborhood”.
